Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: Is it REALLY Perfect for Full-Screen Video? (2026)

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been heavily marketed as the perfect device for 'full-screen' video, but in my opinion, this claim is a bit of a stretch. While the device does offer some improvements over its predecessors, it's not quite as revolutionary as Samsung would have us believe. The wider display is certainly an upgrade, but the reality of using the Fold 8 for video content is a bit more nuanced. The 4:3 aspect ratio of the inner display leaves letterboxing around virtually all video content, which is a significant drawback. Samsung's marketing pitch is not fully reflective of the actual user experience, and the company's claim that the outer display is 'designed for vertical viewing' is also misleading. Despite these issues, the Fold 8 is still an improvement over past foldables, and it's not a bad device for media consumption. However, it's important to be aware of the limitations and not be misled by Samsung's marketing claims. Personally, I think that the Fold 8 is a step in the right direction, but it's not quite the 'full-screen' experience that Samsung is promoting. As the pre-orders for the Fold 8 come to an end, it's worth considering the limitations and make an informed decision.
